The Ultimate Custom Kitchen Island Design
By / August 29, 2022 September 30, 2022Design by Wydian Kitchens & Design
Time and time again I see homeowners question whether or not they should include a kitchen island in their renovation. My response? A custom island is one of the best investments you can make not just for your kitchen, but for your entire home. Let’s check out why this cabinetry feature is so desirable and why custom is the way to go.
Versatility
A kitchen island will meet literally any need you have. Extra storage for pots, pans, and cookbooks? Yup. More counter space for meal prep? You got it. Additional seating for guests? Absolutely. I think you get the picture.
Kitchen Design by Dovetailed Kitchens Inc.
A Central Hub
The kitchen is often said to be the heart of the home, and a kitchen island creates a central hub for everyone to gather around. Whether the kids are doing homework while the adults cook or guests are enjoying a glass of wine and appetizer spread while you host a dinner party, the kitchen island will be at the center of it all.
Proportions
Notice that I specified ‘custom’ kitchen islands. The biggest factor in that reasoning is proportions. A kitchen island needs to fit your space, or it won’t look or feel right. Many people worry about it being too large and dominating the space, but one that is too small can be just as troublesome. A custom kitchen island will be crafted to fit your exact space so the proportions will be perfect.

Design Details
The other benefit of custom is that it will suit your exact style. Don’t settle for a stock design. Make it your own with custom kitchen island cabinets, countertops, seating, and features.

Kitchen Designs with Inset No Bead Cabinets
By / April 6, 2022 March 1, 2022We’ve recently had the good fortune of creating some kitchen designs with Inset No Bead Cabinets and we’re so obsessed with the results, we just had to share. Hopefully, you’ll be as inspired by these designs as we are. Let’s break down this cabinet style to discover if it’s right for you.
Design by AMS Kitchens | Allie Fackler Photography
Inset Explained
Inset doors are one of three styles you can choose for your kitchen cabinets (the other two being partial overlay and full overlay, but that’s a discussion for a different day). The inset style means that the face of the door sits flush with the cabinet frame, creating one smooth surface that requires a knob or pull to open.
Bead Explained
“Bead” in the term “beaded inset cabinets” refers to the decorative groove on the frame surrounding the cabinet door on all sides.
But, we’re talking about no bead inset cabinets today, which means the cabinet frame is smooth as you can see in the kitchen image below. No bead inset cabinets offer a cleaner, simpler look that’s more in-line with current trends.
Design by Joan Bigg Design LLC
A Perfect Match
So now that we understand what inset and bead mean separately, we can explore what the inset no bead cabinet style means as a whole. This cabinet style has historic roots, as it was widely used throughout the 1800s into the 1920s.
However, don’t be fooled into thinking your kitchen design will be transported back to the Victorian Era if you choose this cabinet style. The truth is, you can easily transport inset no bead cabinets into the 21st century by pairing them with modern design elements. Instead of looking dated, they’ll give your design just a touch of vintage and recall the luxury of old-world fine craftsmanship.

Using the 2019 Pantone Color of the Year
By / January 24, 2019 January 24, 2019Living Coral was chosen as the 2019 Pantone Color of the Year. For the past 20 years Pantone has been choosing one color that is influential in all industries.
Pantone Color of the Year – Living Coral
Pantone is known for its color matching system, a tool to allow consistent and accurate color everywhere. This means you can make sure any color matches without having to lay them out next to each other, all you need is the numerical color value. To go further in depth with color, Pantone created the Pantone Color Institute to identify global color trends.
The Pantone Color Institute goes through a selection process every year with their color experts. Looking for a specific shade that is on trend in the entertainment industry, films in production, fashion, design and many more. This year they chose Living Coral, a vibrant yet mellow shade.
Using the Pantone Color of the Year
Sherwin Williams Paint Match – Animated Coral
Our designers decided to make our own unique color based on the color of the year. We created a paint match to Sherwin Williams Animated Coral and created this beautiful coral shade shown above. This shade will create a refreshing pop of color, creating a luminous glow to any space. This piece was later placed in a beautiful beach house bathroom.
Design by Pure Design Works Photography by Jenny Melick Imagery
Pure Design Works kept this beach bathroom light and bright with pineapple wallpaper and coral cabinetry. The same cabinetry that was previously shown above! The impact of the lighting can change the whole look of this color. Previously this color showed a bright pale pink whereas here it showcases a darker hue.
Pantone Living Coral is a unique shade that can be used in all types of spaces. Whether it is in a beach house or your everyday kitchen. Knowing how to correspond this shade with your surroundings will result in a beautiful design.

Kountry Kraft Garage – Where the Dream Became a Reality
By / December 12, 2018 December 12, 2018For many Made in America companies, a garage is where their dream became a reality. The path that led to the launch of Disney, Google, Apple and Kountry Kraft is an inspiring journey.
How the Dream Became a Reality
Many wide known companies such as, Disney, Google and Apple started out in a garage as well. For some, there was a specific item that sparked their inspiration to start creating what they loved. Others, they grew up knowing what they always wanted to do, and the garage was their starting point.
Disney
Walt Disney shifted his interested from cartooning to becoming an animator when he received a camera. With this camera he captured his first animation called “Alice’s Wonderland”. This garage in Kansas City, Missouri was where Walt did all the editing on this project and how Disney came to life.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin were working on a project for Stanford University on how to develop a search engine. This project turned into a success, so they rented a garage in Menlo Park, California and began developing what would become Google.
Apple
Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs raised money to complete their first computer design called “Apple I”. They assembled the circuit board in Steve Jobs’ garage located in Silicon Valley, California. This garage is not labeled as a historical site.
Kountry Kraft, Inc.
Dale, Dee, Jere and Elvin Jr. in Front of Kountry Kraft 1959
Kountry Kraft started when Helen Hurst bought her husband Elvin a brand-new Sears Craftsman Table Saw. This saw allowed Elvin to create cabinetry and furniture for his family and friends. When the demand for his creations grew, the family decided to launch Kountry Kraft in 1959. They started out in the family garage, located in Newmanstown, Pennsylvania where their dream became a reality. Over the years Kountry Kraft grew rapidly and expanded to a 96,000 square foot facility.
If you visit Kountry Kraft, you actually walk through the door that is featured above. We expanded off the original garage to keep the history alive. You can also view the original Sears Craftsman Table Saw in person at our main showroom in Newmanstown, PA!

Custom Crafted Cabinets vs. Stock Cabinets
By / November 14, 2018 March 17, 2023Choosing between custom crafted cabinets and stock cabinetry can be overwhelming. However, learning the pros and cons of both can help you make a decision about which better suits your lifestyle and design.
Custom Cabinets
- Custom Cabinets are built to last
- Each cabinet is handmade
- Ability to customize cabinetry down to the core
- Cabinets are built to fit any size, space and layout
- Custom Cabinets are typically more expensive
- Cabinets take longer to make due to customization and quality of design
Stock Cabinets
- Stock cabinets are the least expensive
- Standard shapes and sizes
- Stock sizes for stock kitchens
- Limited selection of styles and woods
- Pre-manufactured cabinets
- Quick delivery time
- Stock cabinets cannot be customized
- Made on an assembly line
Both options can create a captivating kitchen but it’s important to look at the overall quality and design. Keeping in mind the differences of custom and stock cabinets, here are a few examples of what custom cabinetry can look like in your kitchen.

Cabinets with Hidden Outlets by Kountry Kraft
By / September 5, 2018 March 20, 2023Because of the continuous rapid growth of the use of technology, incorporating cabinets with hidden outlets into your kitchen design is a must. Cabinetry can be designed and crafted to hide electrical outlets in easily accessible places. Many designers have designed charging stations to include outlets, while other designers have designated a cabinet drawer or custom panel to hide outlets.
Designs featuring Cabinets with Hidden Outlets
Designed by Jessica McAllister for D&B Elite Construction Group
Designer Jessica McAllister for D&B Elite Construction Group camouflaged a charging station as part of kitchen cabinets. The charging station is easily accessible, and a counter creates the perfect resting place for devices. This station can also serve double duty as a place to plug in small appliances like a mixer or can opener.
Designed by TRK Design Company
Electrical outlets are also incorporated into kitchen cabinet designs for appliances that need to be plugged in. TRK Design Company designed a kitchen island with an outlet close to the countertop.
Here is an easy DIY way to hide electrical outlets on your cabinets. When closed, the panel appears as part of the island. When open, an outlet is exposed for use. Panels are the perfect solution to incorporate electrical outlets without sacrificing the appearance of your kitchen design.
There are endless options on how you can incorporate cabinets with hidden outlets. Whether its by creating a drawer dedicated to charging devices or a charging station. Or just by adding more electrical outlets to your kitchen island. Whatever your vision may entail, Kountry Kraft Custom Cabinetry can create it for you.
